Let’s start the remasters collection with a recording that I think only I like.

Just to be contrary.

Dover Beach is from 2004 and included on a collection of recordings known only as Songs 2004 (fittingly, I suppose). It was recorded in Albany Park, Chicago.

It is a bit of a lyrical oddball. The lyrics are written in the voice of a character in my series of novellas. Specifically from The Tangible Shore. The lead character of The Tangible Shore is based on me, but very much isn’t me. So this is me singing a song as a lead character in a book I wrote that is kinda based on me… weird, eh?

I have always liked the really aggressive, pounded acoustic guitar in this recording.

Dover Beach

Just looking out at the ocean
After driving all night
Just tired and waiting till light.

Lights on the ocean fade
Lights on the highway fade
Just tired of waiting tonight
Just tired

The channel lies dark between us
Lights on the beach at night
Last bus into town moans
Fills the street with its lights

Lights on the ocean fade
Lights on the last bus fade
Just tired of waiting tonight
Just tired

And I might know you
On some other land
Just wake on the sands with you
And I might show you
All the plans

And I might know you
If the dreams ever end
And so much depends upon you
And I might know you
In the end.
